Roll dice online — any number, any type

Roll a single die or a whole handful. You can also choose the die type: the classic d6 plus d4, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 for D&D and tabletop role-playing games. The result is produced with cryptographic randomness, completely fair — with realistic dice faces, a roll animation and a rattle sound. It totals the result automatically and keeps your rolls in a history list.

Where can you use it?

Perfect for board games like backgammon, Monopoly and Yahtzee, Dungeons & Dragons–style role-playing games (d20, d12, d8, etc.), generating random numbers, classroom and game activities, or quickly deciding between two options. When you don’t have dice or have lost them, it’s right at hand.

A short history of dice

Dice are among humanity’s oldest gaming and divination tools. Dice made from animal knuckle bones (astragali) have been found in Sumer and Egypt from around 3000 BC. The familiar six-sided cube standardised in the Ancient Near East around 2000 BC, with the convention of opposite faces summing to 7 (1-6, 2-5, 3-4) dating from the same era. Romans called dice "tessera" and were so fond of dice games that Julius Caesar famously said "Alea iacta est" ("The die is cast") as he crossed the Rubicon. Today, dice are still at the heart of countless games: backgammon, snakes and ladders, Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Dungeons & Dragons.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose how many sides the die has?

Yes. You can pick from d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100. The d6 is shown as a classic pipped die; the others show the rolled number on the die face. This is ideal for D&D and tabletop role-playing games.

How many dice can I roll at once?

You can roll any number from 1 to 12. The total of the results is calculated automatically.

Are the results really random?

Yes. Each die value is decided by your browser’s cryptographic random number generator; every face is equally likely and previous rolls don’t affect the next.

How do I clear the history?

Just tap the “Reset” link at the top right of the history box; the list clears instantly.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers.

Can I roll two or more dice together?

Yes. You can set 1 to 6 dice. When you roll multiple dice each is rolled independently and the total is shown. Perfect for backgammon, Monopoly or your own games.

Are the dice results really random?

Yes. Each roll is decided by your browser’s Web Crypto API cryptographic random number generator. Every number 1-6 has an equal probability and is independent of previous rolls.

What games can I use it for?

Backgammon, Monopoly, Yahtzee, snakes and ladders, D&D and role-playing games, Ludo, Sorry, and any classic dice game. Also handy for "who goes first" or "how many rounds" style decisions.

Are the names and data I enter stored?

No. Everything runs only in your browser; the names and lists you enter are never sent to a server, stored or shared with anyone. When you close the page, this data is gone.

Does it take up storage on my device?

No, it takes up no storage at all. Online Kura is not a downloaded app; it runs entirely in your browser and nothing is installed on your phone or computer. If you like, you can add it to your home screen and use it like an app — with none of the storage.

How do I add Online Kura to my phone’s home screen?

iPhone (Safari): open the page, tap the Share icon and choose “Add to Home Screen”. Android (Chrome): open the three-dot menu at the top right and tap “Add to Home screen” (or “Install app”). Then you can open Online Kura like an app with one tap.
